Bedford is a town in Middlesex County, Massachusetts. It is within the Greater Boston area, some 15 miles north-west of the city of Boston. The town’s physical location is ideal as it allows easy access to the metropolitan area, the Atlantic Ocean and coastal area’s (both north and south of Boston). There are many other cultural and historic sites within the state. Bedford is an affluent community that prides itself on the beauty of the town land, the safety of its residents, and is rich in history, natural resources, educational excellence and economic diversity. As of the census of 2000, there were 12,595 people, 4,621 households, and 3,419 families residing in the town. There were 4,621 households out of which 34.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 64.4% were married couples living together, 7.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 26.0% were non-families. 21.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 10.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.60 and the average family size was 3.04.
